Folksinger Michael Johnathon created the live audience, multi-media event of WOODSONGS on the belief that grassroots artists, collectively, had an audience bigger than Garth Brooks and Bruce Springsteen. Think of it – thousands of musicians, songwriters, bands and folkies travel the earth searching for their audience, making a living and selling their CD’s. The only thing missing was a global stage that would introduce these hard working artists to the huge audience that was obviously supporting all of them. Woodsongs exists on the principal that the audience cares. The audience is interested. And the audience will always respond to good art.
We at the Grind share in this belief and have become Official Partners of the Woodsongs Old-Time Radio hour broadcast of Grassroots, Folk, Americana, Blues, and Bluegrass music. We have also become an affliate Coffeehouse of Woodsongs, an association of which we are proud of. This was a logical step for us since many of the artistry that have been featured on the Old Time Radio Hour have appeared in Cedar City. Performers such as Garrison Star, Kelly Joe Phelps, Tony Furtado, Chris Proctor, the Wilders, Yonder Mountain String Band, and many others. The weekly broadcast of Woodsongs Old-Time Radio hour can be heard in Cedar City on 97.3 FM, Utah Public Radio, Friday evenings at 10 PM. It’s a great show, and also available on PBS and pod casts.
We are also proud of our relationship with Utah Public Radio. Utah Public Radio is a member of National Public Radio and a service of Utah State University. They broadcast a mix of information, public affairs, fine arts programming and can be heard right here in Cedar City at 97.3 on your FM dial. We highly encourage your support of Utah Public Radio!
