The Grind becomes a Woodsongs Coffeehouse!

Folksinger Michael Johnathon created the live audience, multi-media event of WOODSONGS on the belief that grassroots artists, collectively, had an audience bigger than Garth Brooks and Bruce Springsteen. Think of it – thousands of musicians, songwriters, bands and folkies travel the earth searching for their audience, making a living and selling their CD’s. The only thing missing was a global stage that would introduce these hard working artists to the huge audience that was obviously supporting all of them. Woodsongs exists on the principal that the audience cares. The audience is interested. And the audience will always respond to good art.

We at the Grind share in this belief and have become Official Partners of the Woodsongs Old-Time Radio hour broadcast of Grassroots, Folk, Americana, Blues, and Bluegrass music. We have also become an affliate Coffeehouse of Woodsongs, an association of which we are proud of.  This was a logical step for us since many of the artistry that have been featured on the Old Time Radio Hour have appeared in Cedar City. Performers such as Garrison Star, Kelly Joe Phelps, Tony Furtado, Chris Proctor, the Wilders, Yonder Mountain String Band, and many others. The weekly broadcast of Woodsongs Old-Time Radio hour can be heard in Cedar City on 97.3 FM, Utah Public Radio, Friday evenings at 10 PM. It’s a great show, and also available on PBS and pod casts.

We are also proud of our relationship with Utah Public Radio. Utah Public Radio is a member of National Public Radio and a service of Utah State University. They broadcast a mix of information, public affairs, fine arts programming and can be heard right here in Cedar City at 97.3 on your FM dial.  We highly encourage your support of Utah Public Radio!

Here at The Grind Coffee House our endeavour is to enlighten, entertain and inspire a community audience, through music, and the performing arts. We regularly host National touring artistry as well as local and regional artistry representing such diverse genres of music as indie, americana roots, world beat, folk, alternative jazz, and many others. Our soundstage and room provide an optimum environment for the collective exchange between player and listener. Thanks to your on going support we can continue to enrich lives through the power of sharing music and the live performance.

There is no substitution for the visceral experience of watching artistry at work in the flesh. The experience of being part of a live event defies digital mediation. Here at the Grind we are committed to looking at the role of live music in a new light. In this age of electronic gimmickry it is so rewarding to go and hear live music done by people who are doing it because it’s an intrinsic part of their life’s conveyance. You owe it to yourself, our community, and your art to see as much live music as you can.  We believe you will only be better for it.

Please feel free to roam this website where you’ll find bios, pics. soundbytes, and video clips of all of our upcoming artistry.

The Grind On 101.9 KTIM

Categories:  News

TIM 101.9 FM radio operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Perry Holmes is at the helm, and Environmental Radio is his calling.
“I was a producer for ABC Talk Radio in the 70s down in L.A., but it got a little too much fun for me, to be quite honest, so I got serious and went to Chico State and got a master’s degree in journalism.”
Eventually finding his way to St. George led to what he’s doing.
“I always had a dream of getting into and doing radio, Holmes said, “and then in 1999, this opportunity came up by the federal government for LPFM, low-power frequency, and you could go anywhere on the dial.
